REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR WEDDINGS
All required documentation must be originals and any documents in a foreign language must be translated into English by an accredited authority preferably National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) (Aust) association or organisation.
NEVER VALIDLY MARRIED
Birth Certificate or Passport
Birth Certificate or Passport and Decree Absolute (divorce papers)
WIDOW / WIDOWER
Birth Certificate or Passport and Death certificate of spouse
Birth Certificate/ Passport
If you are Australian-born you must produce an original Birth Certificate from the
Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or a valid Australian Passport .
If born overseas an original Birth Certificate or valid Passport from your country translated as above.
You must be over the age of 18 years to be legally married in Australia. In extenuating circumstances (if under 18 years of age) an application can be made to the Courts for permission of a Judge to be married, however this is almost never granted and parental consent is also required.
Notice Of Intended Marriage (NOIM)
A "Notice of Intended Marriage" form is required to be completed and lodged with your celebrant at least one month prior to the wedding date, and no more than eighteen months prior to the wedding date.
I can send you a NOIM form and assist with instructions completing it and having it signed by the relevant parties or you can download one using the link provided below. Once completed the form and copies of your documentation can be scanned and emailed to me. The day I receive the scanned copy of your NOIM is the lodgement date. I will then be required to sight the original documents prior to performing the ceremony.
